DHL Asia Pacific Innovation Center (APIC) aims to spearhead the development of innovative and future-ready supply chain solutions.Additionally, to drive industry thought leadership and serve as a regional platform for collaborative innovation with customers, industry partners and academia.


Job Purpose:

The incumbent will drive the development of DHL's agenda in the area of Big Data analytics towards establishing its capabilities and thought leadership in the region

Scope:

  • Lead the Analytics Center of Competency which is supported by a corporate lab with the Singapore Management University

  • Drive engagement of industry, customers and DHL-internal to seed and unlock business opportunities, towards meeting business needs, pursuing new business ideas and building thought leadership

  • Develop innovative analytics services

  • Actively build mindshare and pursue collaborations across DHL business units in the region and beyond

  • Strategize and drive a network of external partners towards catalyzing the development of deep capabilities

  • Liaison with various government agencies

  • Pro-actively build and manage a healthy project pipeline towards building a industry holistic track record and driving financial sustainability

  • Manage the team's financial budget/accounts and relationships with the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB) for financial support and local mindshare

  • Drive internal knowledge development and capability development in the latest big-data trends

  • Pursue neutral free budget for the lab via income from both labs/ grant support/ BU contributions

Accountabilities:

Customer Engagement (Internal and External)

  • Lead customer engagement to scope out and pursue project/business opportunities in both areas of Big Data
  • Responsible for ensuring a healthy pipeline of projects

  • Develop innovative analytics services

  • Ensure effective project management across the entire solution development lifecycle to ensure on-time and on-target meeting of project milestones and objectives

  • Drive alignment of project scopes, objectives, deliverables, processes, timeline, and implementation plans

  • Identify and drive partnerships with relevant internal and external stakeholders towards meeting project objectives and greater sophistication

  • Manage project/program risk/issues, driving resolution of issues for a satisfactory outcome and escalate as appropriate

  • Seek opportunities to integrate developed solutions into DHL service offerings for commercialization

  • Function as a subject matter expert interface in the region

  • Raise awareness of DHL’s efforts and sophistication in supply chain Big Data via forums, conferences and white papers

  • Raise awareness of DHL's efforts and sophistication in supply Develop and maintain awareness of competitor's efforts

Stakeholders – External

  • Drive the active engagement and building of a network of senior management level executives (i.e. supply chain region/global decision makers, country level business owners) and key opinion leaders from global companies (i.e. IBM), consultancies (i.e. McKinsey), research and academic institutes (i.e. I2R), government agencies (i.e. EDB) and the start-up scene, towards building DHL's mindshare as a sophisticated, data-analytics driven 3PL
  • Leverage external partners to enhance DHL's capabilities and technologies as well as, via co-innovations and/or strategic business partnerships
  • Manage IT infrastructure partners/vendors, ensuring that the lab is equipped to meet the necessary needs of projects
  • Ensure close coordination with the partnering institution’s analytics team

Stakeholder - Internal

  • Drive the active engagement of regional CSI SMT, regional CEOs, corporate stakeholders, and Board members of operations, business development & IT, as well as, sales leaders of global account in CSI and the BUs, towards building mindshare and supporting their analytics needs
  • Build a network of cross-BU big data champions towards identifying and jointly pursuing data analytics projects
  • Facilitate and drive cross-BU collaborations towards developing multi-faceted, synergistic solutions
  • Proactively support the analytics knowledge and capability/best-practice development needs of BUs
  • Drive the engagement of IT GBS towards aligning the lab's supporting IT infrastructure to the greater DHL organization

Process

  • Manage the overall planning, control, status reporting, stability and execution of projects to ensure that goals and objectives are met within agreed upon timeframes, scope, budget and resource requirements
  • Lead the evaluation of project opportunities - problem statements, business needs, risks-benefits, and cost-benefits towards proposing best strategy / solution / approach
  • Drive the setup, coordinate and manage various workflows and project workgroups/resources consisting of both internal and external stakeholders where relevant
  • Active troubleshooting and risk management of potential project challenges/hurdles/delays
  • Explore opportunities to integrate project outputs into DHL service offering for commercialization
  • Ensure timely, tailored and well-structured communication of project and program progress to all stakeholders, both internal and external
  • Drive knowledge management by ensuring that best practices, learnings and insights arising from projects and industry engagements are documented, kept up-to-date and always available
  • Drive knowledge development and sharing in the latest analytics/big-data industry trends

Finance & Projects:

  • Work within a culture of quality, service excellence, flexibility and cost consciousness ensuring the project is executed to DHL standards
  • With the support of finance, lead and manage project financial budgeting, controlling, invoicing and payment processes
  • With the support of legal, lead and manage the drafting and execution of NDAs, term sheets and contracts with customers
  • Ensure budget neutral position

People Management:

  • Identify suitable project resources both internal and external, and craft roles and responsibilities based on project requirements
  • Lead project teams to accomplish target tasks, manage change and deliver program / project benefits
  • Influence & manage extended teams (without reporting lines) in BU sales/ marketing functions
  • Manage performance and coach/mentor team members


Divisional Experience:

  • No specific experience required, but a good understanding of the DPDHL group stakeholder landscape across BUs, CSI and corporate functions is required

Functional Experience:

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience including at least 5 years in project management and business analysis
  • Proven project management, organization, and business analysis skills

  • Proven ability in report writing and presentations:able to prepare analytical reports highlighting and interpreting key business information, as well as, providing business/project recommendations

  • High proficiency in excel with some knowledge in VBA - able to develop business/solution models

  • Broad-based IT knowledge with a good understanding of information systems and related trends (i.e. Hadoop)

  • Good understanding of programming (i.e. OOP) and database management (i.e. SQL) concepts

  • Good understanding of statistics (i.e. regression analysis) and modeling concepts

  • Proven track record in engaging with governments and industries at senior levels

  • Experience in managing team/project budgets/finance

  • Experience in legal contract management (i.e. Non-disclosure agreements (NDAs), term sheets and commercial contracts)

  • Self-starter and hands-on; able to adapt to challenges and situations

  • Excellent communication skills in the areas of presentation (able to address large audiences confidently - i.e. speaking at symposiums, lectures and industry engagement events), negotiating and influencing skills

  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, motivation and planning skills

  • Effective ability to work on various projects at the same time

  • Diplomatic, tactful, patient and sensitive to cultural differences

Education / Qualification / Certification Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Business, Computer Science, Information Systems, Electrical/Industrial/Computer Engineering
  • Highly proficient in MS Office software’s i.e. Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel (with some knowledge of VBA)
