Are you the enthusiastic, independent supervisor we are looking for? Can you handle complex transport claims and are you able to set up a small, driven claims team in Belgium? You will work for the biggest logistics provider in the world in a job that gives a lot of freedom, variety and flexibility. You also like to optimize processes.
As a Claims Supervisor you will handle transport claims, set up and manage a small claims (2-5 employees) team in Belgium. The department will handle different claims from business customers due to loss or damage of their goods during transportation services. Claims are handled according the (bespoken) contract with the customer or the law. Results of the claims handling are reported to business colleagues of the different divisions. Based on analyses of the claims, you will also define actions in order to improve the quality of the claims handling and the transportation process (to prevent new claims)
As Claims Supervisor Belgium you will report to the Cluster Claims Manager Benelux of GBS Insurance & Risk management (IRM). IRM is the internal service provider, providing various services to all DHL business units, e.g. contract risk, insurances and claims handling. IRM is part of the division Global Business Services (GBS). Other departments are e.g. Legal or Procurement. The Supervisor and claims team in Belgium are new functions because of the increasing involvement in claims handling in Belgium.
DHL has currently 5 different business units / divisions and you will service them all: DHL Global Forwarding, DHL Freight, DHL Supply Chain, DHL Parcel and DHL Express. The level of involvement in each BU can be different.
You will have regular contact with most management levels in the different BU’s in Belgium and/or the Netherlands (some BU’s have a Benelux responsibility). In addition you will work together with Legal, Customer Services, Finance and Sales departments in the different BU’s. Your working location will be Brussels area, but you will regularly visit your internal customers located in Belgium (or the Netherlands). You will also be able to work from home.
Main functional areas
Initially the department will be set up with 2-3 claims specialists. Your task is to recruit where necessary, organize the department in line with the same department in the Netherlands and optimize the claims handling process, reporting and communication lines. Main target is to have a pro-active dedicated Belgium claims handling team.
Your role will probably be 50% claims handling and 50% management of the team. You will lead the big and more complex claims, ensure an appropriate follow-up of the claims settlement with insurers and take care of and maximize recoveries from third parties where entitled. You will also make sure claims are handled accurately (in line with contract / law) and as efficient as possible. Most activities have a strong insurance and / or legal background.
You are an independent and people driven coach who very much likes to organize the department with a strong focus on legal competencies in order to improve claims handling where possible.
You understand the background, meaning and risks of claims for the company and are able to communicate where necessary in a timely and pro-active way. For you it is no problem to report, explain and advise the different management layers in all business units.
The organization and claims department will probably further grow in the (near) future, but for you it is not a problem to adapt the claims department and processes to (incidental) growth peaks in a structured way. You are able to oversee consequences of internal and external decisions and remain focused. Actually it makes you “happy” to (re)organize and extend the department where necessary.
